Land Rover Planning Defender Truck and 10+ Other New SUVs by 2020

Land Rover is getting mighty ambitious, and we’re not just talking about the Range Rover Evoque convertible and rumored sub-Evoque crossover . A new report from Autocar suggests that Land Rover is looking to more than double its annual sales by 2020 thanks to an influx of more than 10 new models. Let’s have a look at what Land Rover’s future may hold for upscale SUV customers everywhere.

Potentially one of the most significant variants is the three-row Range Rover Evoque. For those who don’t want a Range Rover Sport or don’t want the three-row Land Rover LR4, an extra-large Range Rover Evoque could keep buyers within the automaker’s family. We’ve previously reported on the sub-Evoque crossover, which could carry a price below that of the 2013 Evoque’s newly lowered $41,995 MSRP. And it’s impossible to forget about the Evoque convertible, which can be seen in concept form above.

Land Rover hasn’t forgotten about the LR2 (known as the Freelander outside of the U.S.), which may be redesigned in five- and seven-seat body styles, in addition to an entry-level LR2 that could lower the price of entry into the Land Rover lineup. A new and far more efficient  LR4 (the Discovery in other markets) is coming in the next few years, as well.

Then there’s the Defender. Citing plans from Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern, the Autocar report says that along with a DC100-like SUV, the next Defender may be sold in five- and seven-seat versions plus our favorite part of this Land Rover prediction report: a crew-cab truck.
